THROUGH THE VALLEYS

Looking down over the valleys from the hilltops, more than ever before we get a feel for the "Heart of the Galilee"

This route begins in Karmiel, "the capital of the Heart of the Galilee", which was established in 1965.  The town offers a variety of scenic parks and open spaces.  In the Yigal Allon Park there is a wide assortment of indigenous trees, an extensive fruit orchard as well as a children's playground.  From the southern side of the park there is a view over Mount Kamon.  The Ofira Park is the central and largest park in Karmiel.  The municipal greenhouse can be found on its western edge.  In the center of the Galil neighborhood, the Galil Park boasts an amphitheater and a memorial grove.

From Karmiel, travel eastwards on road 85 and turn at the gas station in the direction of Kamon, a community in the Misgav region, which sits on Mount Kamon, the highest peak in the Lower Galilee.  From the observation point in Kamon, we have a bird's eye view of the Hanina Valley to the north, the Sea of Galilee to the east and the Sakhnin Valley to the south.

From Kamon continue to Mikmanim, also part of the Misgav region which overlooks Karmiel.  Visit "From the Bible to Nature" site, a chance to relive the scriptures and life in the Biblical era.

A verity of hiking& mountain biking  trails lies on the Kamon ridge , and connects the settlements of Kamon , Michmanim , & the Beduin villages of Kamaneh .

To complete the tour, return to road 85 and travel east to Rameh.  Turn left on road 864 that winds through the village, home to inhabitants from all 3 major religions.  This leads to Harashim, a Misgav community in the Upper Galilee.

About 100 m before Harashim, there is a Jewish National Fund  path that overlooks Mount Shezor.  The walk is about an hour long.  The path winds between a variety of oak trees and Mediterranean Pistacio trees.  In the winter, amongst the blooming flowers are orchids and hyaciths.  Remains of stone walls are evidence of the attempt by the Israelites to settle here more than 3000 years ago.  From the lookout there is a breathtaking view to the south, from Haifa across to the Sea of Galilee.  The path from the lookout leads to the community of Harashim whose houses hide among the natural undergrowth.
